Stephen Harris - Four centuries of Oxford botany
Tue, Oct 5th 2021
The quadricentenary of the foundation of the Oxford Botanic Garden is an opportunity to reflect on the contributions made by researchers and teachers in the University to plant sciences. The story is a patchy one. Long periods of relative torpor have been punctuated by bursts of intense productivity where important advances have been made. This talk draws on a wealth of unpublished and unpublished documentary material to show how these contributions have furthered both our understanding of plants and how we use them.
Stephen Harris is Druce Curator of Oxford University Herbaria.
