Kathy Warden - Juniper Valley (Aston Upthorpe Downs SSSI)

July 14, 2019

Visit to Juniper Valley (Aston Upthorpe Downs SSSI). This chalk downland valley is the sole remaining native site for Pasqueflower in Oxfordshire. Among the other special plants recorded are Field Fleawort, Burnt Orchid and Catmint, which we will try to find again while exploring the juniper-clad slopes. As well as steep slopes there are numerous rabbit holes so please wear appropriate footwear.

Meet at 10.00 by the grain dryer at SU550844. From the A417, a mile east of Blewbury, turn south into a narrow lane signed to The Downs (opposite Spring Lane, which leads to Aston Upthorpe village). The grain dryer is about half a mile down the track.
