Bernard Tucker Memorial Lecture - Joint with OOS
Most people are now aware of the significant contributions to our understanding of bird systematics that have resulted from analysis of DNA, and the impact this is having on conservation work. This talk will summarise some of the uses of DNA for unravelling taxonomy and identification of birds, and describe how birders and scientists can work collaboratively now and in the future. DNA analysis is a very powerful tool, but with great power comes great responsibility – what does it mean for 'normal' birding and for rarity assessment?
